THE FOOT OF SAN MICHELE – influenced by the mountain top sites that have been dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel. Inscribed on the work, especially on the shin, are the names of these sites such as Gargano, (Apulia), Sagra di San Michele, (Piedmont) Mont St. Michel, and LePuy, (France). Rainer Maria Rilke’ Second Duino Elegy is inscribed throughout the work: “If the dangerous archangel took one step now down towards us From behind the stars, our heartbeats rising like thunder Would kill us. Who are you? Creation’s spoiled darlings, among the first to be perfect?”
